Bibimariyam Mussakhanova presented her project “Sweet Neighbour”, inspired by the Sakkaros, the family made of sugar that melts in the rain in Isaac Asimov’s short story “Rain, Rain, Go Away”. The project shows a porcelain coaster and a figurine (who reminds us a sugar puppet) that arose from it. Plate shape is modeled to resemble a puddle: the teacup heat models the sugar to transform it into something different.
Sharebot worked together with Istituto Marangoni to create the prototype: first step was about choosing the right 3D printer for the model. Knowing the size and feature the mock-up should have, our technicians choose to use Sharebot 42, our filament deposition professional 3D printer. The model maximum width is 200 mm while it’s high is less than 150 mm (as the contest requests). We used our PLA-S material with the Sharebot HQ profile (standard speed and 0.1 resolution on Z).
